Women Playing Hamlet with DJ Skinner

March 31, 2017

The stage is set. Come one come all to Finlandia University’s showing of Women Playing Hamlet. Finlandia Fridays sits down with lead actress DJ Skinner as she prepares for the exciting opportunity to headline a major production.

DJ Skinner FinnUThe play, Women Playing Hamlet, is a spin of off a Shakespeare classic. The main character Jessica AKA DJ Skinner has recently been cast as the lead roll and continues to encompass all the trials and tribulations a lead actress goes through. “It’s really about putting yourself into the character in theater,” said Skinner.

Luckily, for Skinner she is only focusing on the lead roll, the other three cast members will be playing a total of 18 different characters. But don’t let the numbers deter you, the actresses are well prepared and have been working on their characters for months. This play features characters ranging from a Starbucks barista to a “Minnesota Mom” with corresponding accents.

Show times include 7 p.m. on Friday, April 7 followed by another performance on Saturday, April 8at 3 p.m. The production can be found at the Future College of Health Sciences Auditorium in the center of downtown Hancock. Be sure to stick around after the show on Friday night for the post-show reception featuring food and drinks provided by Chef Mark Pittillo. Tickets will be $7 at the door and at North Wind Books, seniors/kids tickets are $5 and students get in free so get your tickets now.
