Terri Olsen (‘94, ‘08) has been named the new Director of TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) at Finlandia University. A two-time graduate of the institution, Olsen attained an associate degree in business from Suomi College in 1994 and later, a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies from Finlandia in 2008.
“During her time at Finlandia Terri has served the TRiO SSS program, and the institution, at an exemplary level,” said Luke Morrill, VP for Student Development and Dean of Students. “I am incredibly excited to work with her as she transitions into this new role. I have no doubt that Terri and the TRiO SSS team will continue to provide outstanding support to students.”
Olsen has been a staff member at the institution and within TRIO for 27 years. Over the past academic year, Olsen served as interim Director of TRIO SSS, providing senior leadership throughout the transition. In her new role, Olsen will oversee all aspects of TRIO SSS office operations.
“I was a TRIO Upward Bound student the summer of ‘90 and ‘91, was a Suomi College student and TRIO Upward Bound and Talent Search work-study from ‘92 to ‘94, worked for TRIO Upward Bound in the summers of ‘94 and ‘95, and started my previous position in TRIO Student Support Services on August 14, 1995,” Olsen said.
In her spare time, Olsen said that she enjoys spending time with her husband, K.O., and their granddaughter Madison. She also enjoys spending time with friends and family at their camp in the Keweenaw. Regarding Finlandia, Olsen said she is most looking forward to “bringing back the student energy and excitement that we lost with the pandemic.”
Olsen’s office is located at Nikander Hall in Room 11.
