TRIO Pre-College Programs, hosted by Finlandia University, has announced intentions to move forward with scheduled programming and services in summer 2023 while it works with Finlandia leadership and the U.S. Department of Education to find a new host institution. TRIO Upward Bound (TRIO UB), hosted by Finlandia University, is currently accepting applications for 20 new high school participants from the CCISD. Ideal TRIO UB candidates would like to attend college after high school, are open to academic and personal support, are committed to attending events, and would appreciate a community atmosphere.

19 students from the Copper Country ISD, Gogebic-Ontonagon ISD and Forest Park Schools have been awarded scholarships to attend Summer Youth Programs at Michigan Technological University. Active participants in TRIO Talent Search 9th, 10th and 11th grades were encouraged to apply. Each scholarship is valued at $1000, which covers the cost of registration, room & board, transportation and any lab fees.

This summer, from June 11 to July 12, 2018, approximately 35 area high school students will experience the daily routines of college freshmen on the Finlandia University campus. Finlandia University has been officially notified by the U.S. Department of Education of the successful grant submission for another five year TRIO grant for $353,718 per year ($1,768,590 total). TRIO Upward Bound will be funded from 2017 to 2022 with this new proposal, and aid students from Baraga, Houghton, and Keweenaw counties find success in high school to prepare for beyond.
