TRIO Talent Search at Finlandia University met 100 percent of their Annual Performance Report objectives, set by the U.S. Department of Education, for the 2019-2020 academic year. 19 students from the Copper Country ISD, Gogebic-Ontonagon ISD and Forest Park Schools have been awarded scholarships to attend Summer Youth Programs at Michigan Technological University. Active participants in TRIO Talent Search 9th, 10th and 11th grades were encouraged to apply. Each scholarship is valued at $1000, which covers the cost of registration, room & board, transportation and any lab fees.

Dave Kamrad recently accepted the position of Director of TRIO Pre-College Programs at Finlandia University. Kamrad has been with the University for nearly 30 years.
“I have seen a lot of good that these programs can do for our students,” Kamrad said. “I’m looking forward to continuing to build relationships with schools and students to see sustained success for our programs.”

TRIO-TS, a grant funded program hosted by Finlandia University that assists students in 16 local schools who come from modest income homes and/or will be the first person in their family to attend college. Starting this year, TRIO-TS will be running an 8th grade Mentoring/Tutoring Program, featuring college students as the mentors/tutors. Time commitment ranges, with a minimum of 2-2.5 volunteer hours/month.
