Sirkka Tuomi Holm was born just days before women earned the right to vote in the United States, a point her father considered vitally important and reminded her of it frequently. Her activism started then, and didn’t ever stop.

Snowflake Challenge with Ginger Alberti |1:00 – 6:00 p.m. | Sew Cranky Heikinpäivä Snowflake Challenge project, for everyone, beginners too! Learn to quickly sew a pattern on a black felt square (with an antique hand crank sewing machine), which is then entered into the contest with cash and gift certificate prizes! $3 to enter. All ages. Finnish American Heritage Center Brings Vappu Celebration to Campus

Each year the country of Finland takes a break from their daily routines to pause and celebrate together. Vappu, celebrated on May 1, marks the end of winter. The holiday also serves as international recognition day of labor.

This year, the Finnish American Heritage Center (FAHC) is hosting a Vappu (May Day) celebration at the FAHC on Wednesday, May 1 at 6 p.m.

Social dance class open to Finlandia students and community

There’s no better way to warm yourself on a chilly winter’s evening than to dance. And Heikinpäivä 2018 is offering plenty of opportunities to do just that – even for folks who’ve never danced before.
