Support Finlandia on Giving Tuesday

This is a letter to alumni and friends of the university from Finlandia University President Dr. Philip Johnson. In the spirit of Giving Tuesday, we ask that you support Finlandia University by making a donation.

Finlandia Alumni and Friends,

This was Ryan’s counsel to Finlandia nursing students when interviewed in 2016. His thoughts reflect a refreshingly positive and matured perspective given his recent graduation from Finlandia and as yet brief career in primary health care. There is a good message for all of us here, I believe. Career preparation and advancement, when pursued with excellence, will always require a good measure of grit, or sisu as we say at Finlandia. And, a life well-lived, a consequential life if you will, is realized only when we foster trusting human relationships. We are grateful for the positive impact that Ryan is making in health and wellness.

Giving Tuesday is a global day of reflection and action. It arrives in the season of Thanksgiving. It nudges all of us to consider how we have received, and oftentimes in unearned ways, the good will of others or providential breaks and advantages that have brought us to where we are today. There is no such thing as a self-made person. All of us have been on the receiving end of goodness at some point along the way.

Today, I urge you to do two things.

#1: Pick up your phone or a pen and express your thanks to someone who came into your life and made an enduring positive change.
