Online registration for Spring 2017 remains open until Dec. 7

Please note: Registration can still be done through your academic advisor or the registrar’s office after December 7.

Finlandia Fridays explores art therapy

This week Finlandia Fridays speaks with  art therapy major Laurin LaBonte. Art therapy is a unique major offered at Finlandia that was first made available in 2013. This major has a wide range of uses as LaBonte outlines it can help immensely with Alzheimer patients, those suffering from PTSD, and even patients recovering from car accidents. Art has been found to carry numerous therapeutic properties that can aid in emotional behavior and even motor skills with Alzheimer patients.

E-mail system changes are coming

Finlandia University will be making important changes to our e-mail system over the winter holiday break (between semesters). Beginning Wednesday, December 21, we will be migrating our e-mail service to a different e-mail provider. This change is part of our ongoing effort to bring improved technical services to our campus community.

More details will be provided in the coming days and weeks.

Preview Day highlighted in first episode of Finlandia Fridays

This week on Finlandia Fridays we speak with Director of Admissions Travis Hanson about the upcoming Finlandia Preview Day 2016. In this episode Hanson outlines what exactly Preview Day is, and what it means for recruitment within the university. Nordic Film Series opens with local documentary UP a River

The 2016-17 season of the Nordic Film Series at Finlandia University’s Finnish American Heritage Center (FAHC) gets under way with a film every Upper Michigan outdoorsman and outdoorswoman must see. On Thursday, October 13, the series opens with showings of the locally produced documentary “UP a River.”

Blue Line Club hosting pancake breakfast October 22

The Finlandia University Blue Line Club is hosting a pancake breakfast to benefit the university’s men’s and women’s hockey teams on Saturday, October 22 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Houghton County Arena.

The annual event is one of two primary events to help support the hockey teams throughout the year. It will take place in the Dave Wiitanen Room inside of the arena.

The Table focusing on breakfast and toiletries in early October 2016

Finlandia University’s The Table: Student Needs Pantry & Services is always accepting donations. While any donations are accepted, below is a list of our focus for the next two weeks:

Breakfast Items Cereal Toaster Pastries Breakfast Bars (granola, etc.) Dry Milk Non-Dairy Milk Juices Fruits/Veggies (fresh, canned, or frozen) Toiletries Toothbrushes Toothpaste Mouthwash/Rinse

Grateful students in need utilize the pantry on a regular basis. Any and all help for collecting donations is greatly appreciated. Donation boxes will soon be placed around campus at a later date.

International School of Art & Design alum Paige Emily will be the featured artist on Friday, October 7 at K.C. Bonkers in Hancock. The art show opening will be at 7 p.m., and feature the class of 2016 graduate’s latest paintings.

Study Abroad Workshop to be hosted October 4

Submissions asked for Second Tuesday Recital Series

The Second Tuesday Recital Series is set to return on Tuesday, October 11 at 12:30 in the Chapel of St. Matthew, and currently submissions are being accepted for performers.

This series is open to anyone who may wish to share a performing arts piece, such as: Music, Drama, Dance, Performance poetry/prose. The number of participants in a Second Tuesday Recital Series is only limited by the half-hour time slot.
