Get Fit in 2020 at Paavo Nurmi
December 13, 20192020 is almost here and many people look to get fit in the new year. The Paavo Nurmi Fitness Center offers members a great gym at a great price to make sure they can reach their fitness goals. On this episode of Finlandia Fridays, host Olivia Myers is joined by women’s basketball coach Mariah Dunham for the second time this season, this time to discuss the new discounted pricing Paavo Nurmi will be offering starting January 1- January 31 and the facility.
Beginning January 1, community members who would like to purchase an annual pass can do so at a discounted price of $200 (regular price $260). Special pricing and discounts are also available for veterans, seniors and alumni, who can purchase a pass for $140 (regular price$200).
“The Fitness Center is kind of a big deal, I sell it for recruiting purposes and now for selling memberships, people walk in and are like, ‘Holy cow!'” said Dunham “We have neighboring Tech and they really try to compare it and they’re like, ‘There is so much more space.’ And it’s pretty quiet because it is used mostly by our athletes but we do have some members that are out in the public that come in and use it.
“We have free weights, some machines, cardio and a cardio room, plus we have a little bit of a mini turf. It’s really neat because there are a lot of things you can do in that gym. It’s pretty awesome too that we have saunas for people. So it’s kind of a little hidden gem.”
Not only does the Paavo Nurmi have a weight room available, there are also some classes and youth summer camps too. There is a women’s rowing class on Mondays and Wednesdays. The schedule for the class can be found online or outside the cardio room door.
The youth summer camps are available for elementary and middle-school aged kids and high school students. There they can learn the basics of lifting and how to properly train with the Finlandia Athletic strength coach. Those interested in signing their child up should check out Advantedge Sports online or on social media.

The Paavo Nurmi Fitness Center is open for Christmas break Monday- Friday 7 am- 7 pm, Saturday 10 am – 4 pm and Sunday 12 pm- 5 pm. Beginning January 14th the center will be open from Monday- Friday 5 am -10 pm, Saturday 8 am- 6 pm and Sunday 10 am- 8 pm.
