Finlandia hosts second annual Walk a Mile in THEIR Shoes March on October 3

September 27, 2018

Walk a Mile FinnU event

Event Part of Month of Action

Finlandia University’s Men of Strength of Club is hosting the Walk a Mile in THEIR Shoes march on Wednesday, October 3 at 4 p.m. The second annual event starts at Quincy Green, and continues on Quincy Street into downtown Hancock.

Anyone can participate, man, woman or child. To best prepare for the event, if up to the challenge, practice wearing heels. Please note, while high heels are typically worn for the event, they are not a requirement to participate. If you are interested in donating heels for participants, contact Dean of Students Erin Barnett.

About Walk a Mile

Walk a Mile marches have taken place over the United States. The marches serve to promote sexual assault awareness by having participants march in heels so they can experience what women experience on a regular basis, or as the official website states, “first you must walk the walk to talk the talk.” By experiencing what women often go through, participants can have a better understanding of sexual violence, so that they can raise appropriate discussions about it and work towards prevention and creating safer environments for everyone.  For more information on Walk A Mile, check out their website walkamileinhershoes.org
