Film crew coming to FinnU as part of National Hazing Prevention Week

September 24, 2018

Finlandia University’s campus will be featured this week by a film crew as part of National Hazing Prevention Week. The crew is with documentary filmmaker Byron Hurt, and footage captured at FinnU will be used in his latest documentary project, HAZING. HAZING is a 60-minute documentary film that will explore why the controversial practice of hazing continues to be widely seen as a meaningful and legitimate rite of passage, despite mounting lawsuits, fraternity/sorority chapter suspensions, increased media coverage, serious injuries, arrests and tragic deaths.

Hurt is on campus to host a lecture on Tuesday night, but he’ll also be meeting with student leaders from the Servant Leadership House and working on his documentary with some students. In addition to those events for Hazing Prevention Week, FinnU will be having a pledge drive in front of Finlandia Hall during lunch hours, on Wednesday night there will be a film on hazing, followed by a panel discussion, and later this week two representatives from the Michigan Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence (MCEDSV) will be on campus to provide student leader training and participate in the panel Wednesday.
