Father Corbin Eddy now serving as Visiting Campus Pastor

October 8, 2018

Finlandia University has named Father Corbin Eddy Visiting Campus Pastor for the 2018-19 academic year.

Father Corbin Eddy“Over the past few years while working with Corbin, a Copper Country native, I have come to respect and admire his intellect, perspective, and genuine, caring openness to spiritual traditions other than his own,” President Philip Johnson told employees of the university in a memo last week. “I have also come to appreciate, while he serves as a member of Finlandia’s part-time faculty, his deep interest in our students and their success.”

Eddy will hold office hours each Monday and Wednesday, serve as the office of confidentiality for all students, faculty, and staff, conduct regular activities in the Chapel of St. Matthew, and provide other pastoral services on campus.

Eddy is taking over the role previously filled by Rev. Soren Schmidt. Schmidt accepted a call to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in nearby Chassell.

“Those who have worked closely with Pastor Soren know well how much he has done for Finlandia and for our students, faculty, and staff during his nine years with us,” Johnson said. “His presence, leadership, passion, and amazing array of gifts and talents will be missed. Personally, Soren’s pastoral presence, counsel, and friendship have been a continual and valued source of joy and encouragement to me.”

Father Corbin Eddy’s office hours in the Chapel of St. Matthew are Mondays 1 to 3 p.m. and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. He can be reached at (906) 487-7239 or corbin.eddy@finlandia.edu.
