Expert ultra-endurance athlete coming to Keweenaw
April 10, 2017Finlandia University Community Wellness, Michigan Tech Wellness and the Outdoor Adventure Program at Michigan Tech have teamed up to bring ultra-endurance athlete Heather Anderson to town for a Trail Tune-Up event on Saturday, April 15. Anderson is a Michigan native that has held the record for FKT (fastest known time) on the Appalachian and Pacific Crest Trails.
The day will begin with an afternoon trail run led by FinnU Cross Country coach Bridget Durocher and the Cross Country team. The runners will meet at the Maasto Hiito chalet trail head, located near the Houghton County Arena. It will finish with some stretching, sauna and refreshments at the Paavo Nurmi Center. The evening will then move to Fisher 138 on the MTU campus with a physiology talk by Dr. John Durocher. Immediately following will be the presentation by Anderson.
This event is free and open to the entire community. A brief description of all three portions of the event is available below.
Group Trail Run for All Levels
- 3-4 p.m.
- Led by Finlandia University Cross Country team
- Maasto Hiito Chalet Trail Head
- Followed by stretch and sauna at Paavo Nurmi Center
