2014 Jacket Workshop with Mary Sue Fenner

This class is designed for all fiber artists: weavers, felters, dyers, sewists, and surface designers–to inspire and guide you in making a beautiful, unique jacket from your own handmade and/or purchased fabrics. Mary Sue will help you choose a suitable style for you and your fabric (approx. 5 yards of 30? width), alter your pattern if needed, and sew, using contemporary and classic sewing methods.

2014 Visiting Artist: Leopoldo Cuspinera Madrigal

Artist Leopoldo Cuspinera Magrigal will be featured in the Finlandia Reflection Gallery from March 27, 2014, to April 18, 2014. In his work Madrigal uses mixed media to create new landscapes from the gallery spaces that the pieces are placed to interact. His work is concerned with how people navigate spaces and ideas.

2014 Visiting Artist: Tony Orrico

Focusing on repetitive movement of the body, Tony Orrico’s work looks into ideas of generation and regeneration of material as well as metaphors of life and death. As a visual artist, performer, and choreographer, Orrico combines techniques of all three to create thought-provoking pieces. His work will be featured in the Finlandia University Gallery from February 27, 2014, to March 19, 2014.

Orrico will be performing one of his pieces on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 from 3 to 5 p.m. in the EERC Room 510, Electrical Energy Resources Center, at Michigan Technological University.
Orrico will be giving a lecture to students, faculty, and community on February 27, 2014 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in Finlandia’s Jutila Center Chapel located on the 3rd floor.
The opening reception for Orrico will be on February 27, 2014 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Finlandia University Gallery.

2014 “Imperfect: Letterpress X 3”

Showcasing the work of Joey Hannaford, Mervi Pakaste, and Jeff Pulaski, this exhibit revels in the imperfections of a process that extends beyond the computer screen: letterpress. These designers take a traditional process and mold it to fit a modern context and story, each with it’s own unique voice. The exhibition will run from February 6, 2014, to February 28, 2014 located at Finlandia University’s Reflection Gallery.

2014 Alumni Spotlight: Audrey Small

Art and Design alumna Audrey Small will be spreading her work to the Allan Park, Michigan, to work as a graphic designer for CONTROLTEC. CONTROLTEC transforms product development by providing data-driven solutions for systems engineering, validation, warranty reduction and certification. 2013 Visiting Artist: Christian Narkiewicz-Laine

Challenging people’s assumptions, Christian Narkiewicz-Laine’s work looks into political systems and questions their stance on human rights and democracy in a variety of media. This exhibit will be hosted by the Finlandia University Gallery from December 5, 2013, to January 11, 2014.

2013 Visiting Artist: Lindsey Heiden

The Finlandia University Reflection Gallery, Hancock, will be hosting an exhibit for ceramic artist Lindsey Heiden from November 7 to December 1, 2013.

Digging into the realm of fantastical characters, circus imagery, and a magician, Mikko Kallio brings about the world of play in his exhibit “The Magician” hosted by the Finlandia University Gallery from October 24 to November 20, 2013.

The way people interact and percieve concepts such as time and space are considered in Robert Hower’s body of work being presented at the Finlandia University Gallery from September 12 to October 16, 2013.

2013 Faculty Exhibit: Denise Vandeville

The Finlandia University Reflection Gallery, Hancock, will present an installation orchestrated by Denise Vandeville that delves into what people really look to in the digital age, and what will be left behind when it is over. The exhibit runs from September 5 to September 30, 2013.

The Finlandia University Reflection Gallery, Hancock, will present a multi-disciplinary exhibit of work by artists Carrice Chardin and Erica Lord from April 4 to April 30, 2013.

2013 “Small Spaces: Significant Sway” Exhibition

The Finlandia University Reflection Gallery, Hancock, will host “Small Spaces, Significant Sway,” an exhibit of work by fifteen professional graphic designers, from March 4 to March 29, 2013.
Curated by Robert Grame, Finlandia associate professor of graphic design, the exhibition highlights diverse and thought-provoking work from designers across the United States.

Loved Squared, Frock’s first illustrated book, is featured at the Finlandia University Gallery from January 17 to February 16, 2013.

2012-13 Visiting Artist: Marja Lianko

The 21st Contemporary Finnish American Artist Series exhibit, “Marja Lianko: From There to Here,” will be featured at the Finlandia University Gallery, located in the Finnish American Heritage Center, Hancock, from December 6, 2012, to January 12, 2013.
