Experience the 125th Anniversary

In December, Finlandia welcomed students, faculty and staff along with alumni, friends and family to a series of events in commemoration of the institution’s 125th anniversary. In honor of its Finnish and Lutheran heritage, Finlandia celebrated Finnish Independence Day for the 104th time at the Finnish American Heritage Center following a Sunday worship service at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Hancock.

Finlandia staff member, Nata Borgen, and international business student, Santeri Seppinen, were recently featured as subjects of two short videos on Finns living in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The videos are promotional pieces for Finnzone and are part of Finnzone’s strategy for attracting Finnish companies to the Keweenaw. Nordic Film Series to host Bruce Crossing-based film on November 9

Bruce Crossing-based filmmaker Kristin Ojaniemi traveled to Finland earlier this year to conduct interviews for her latest documentary. If she goes to Finland next year, it could be for a screening of her film.

Nordic Film Series opens with local documentary UP a River

The 2016-17 season of the Nordic Film Series at Finlandia University’s Finnish American Heritage Center (FAHC) gets under way with a film every Upper Michigan outdoorsman and outdoorswoman must see. On Thursday, October 13, the series opens with showings of the locally produced documentary “UP a River.”
