Finlandia recognizes Class of 2018

The most magical moment of the year took place Sunday afternoon as the Finlandia University Class of 2018 was recognized during the annual commencement ceremony at 1:30 p.m. at the Paavo Nurmi Center. At the ceremony 73 students were conferred degrees, while they heard from Alumni Speaker Kathleen Harmon ‘86, Student Representative and Nursing Major Melissa Helppi, and Commencement Speaker Marilyn Clark.

Melissa Helppi named 2018 Student Representative at Finlandia University

Nursing student to speak during commencement

Finlandia University’s Class of 2018 will hear from nursing major Melissa Helppi during commencement as the non-traditional student was named Student Representative. Helppi is well known around campus for her involvement, dedication to excellence and proven ability as a leader.

Marilyn Clark to be Finlandia University’s Commencement Speaker

Finlandia University is proud to announce MTEC SmartZone CEO Marilyn Clark will be the 2018 Commencement Speaker during commencement exercises on Sunday, April 29 at the Paavo Nurmi Center.

“Marilyn is a believer. She believes in people, their ideas, and the enduring positive change they are able to bring to the U.P., Michigan and around the world,” FinnU President Philip Johnson said. “She is a hopeful, positive human being who also knows a lot about business.”

Harmon coming back to Finlandia as alumni speaker

For more than 30 years Kathleen Harmon (’86) has been an innovative leader in the nursing field, a story thousands of alumni and friends of the university read about in the school’s magazine, the Bridge, last fall.
