Student Nurses Association Hosting Blood Drive Oct. 27

The Finlandia University Student Nurses Association (FUSNA) will be hosting a Blood Drive on Oct. 27 from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Chapel of St. Matthew. Donors will go to the Chapel to complete paperwork and check vital signs before donating in the bloodmobile, which will be parked in the Old Main parking lot.

The FUSNA is partnering with UP Health Systems Regional Blood Center to sponsor the event.

Don’t Throw Away Your Shot! Finlandia Fridays Talks About the Flu Shot Clinic

“I’m not throwing away my shot,” sang Lin-Manuel Miranda as Alexander Hamilton in the hit musical “Hamilton.” While Miranda wasn’t referring to a flu shot per-say, it is important not to forgo your flu shot this year. To make it easier to obtain, Finlandia University’s Wellness Committee will have influenza vaccines available for the Finlandia community on Monday, Oct. 12 from 3-5p.m in Nikander 14A.

Alumni Update: Bigalke Named Principal of Ludington Area Catholic School

Finlandia University alumna, Jan Bigalke, recently accepted the role as Principal at Ludington Area Catholic School. She earned an associate degree in nursing from Suomi College and has more than 16 years of experience working as a registered nurse. After getting her associates from Suomi College, Bigalke earned a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from Ferris State University and a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Dayton.

New College of Health Sciences building renovations to be completed for Fall 2020

The former Hancock High School (featured pre-renovation) will be the new location for FinnU’s College of Health Sciences beginning in Fall 2020.

FinnU Ranked Third in 2020 Best Online RN-BSN Programs in Michigan

Finlandia University’s Online RN-BSN program has been named one of the 2020 – Best Online RN-BSN Programs in Michigan by Registered Nursing.

Finlandia’s program ranked third in the state ahead of Madonna University.

College of Health Sciences Donates PPE to Local Organization for Covid-19 Efforts

The Finlandia University College of Health Sciences is assisting in the fight against Covid-19 by donating supplies, usually reserved for class instruction, to local organizations. The CHS donated over 2800 gloves and 170 masks in addition to caps, gowns and hand sanitizer to Gardenview Assisted Living & Memory in Calumet as they work to protect their residents and staff.

Applications Open for Samuel L. Westerman Scholarship for Nursing

Nursing students heading into their junior or senior year with a GPA between 3.00 to 3.49 may be eligible for the Samuel L. Westerman Scholarship for Nursing. Application deadline for the scholarship is Wednesday, March 11.

The amount of scholarships and money awarded will depend on the quantity and quality of applications. Students who want to be considered for renewal must file a new application each year, and will be given equal consideration with other candidates.

The Finlandia University Student Nurses’ Association (FUSNA), in association with the U.P. Regional Blood Center, is hosting its annual blood drive from 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday, February 7, in Finlandia Hall. The blood drive offers nursing students a great opportunity to develop their professional skills, while also providing an invaluable service to the community.
