While most people hunkered down in their homes last spring at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Finlandia nursing faculty began looking for opportunities to get students involved in the (hopefully) once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

FinnU to Host #CrushCOVID Week

Finlandia University will be hosting #CrushCOVIDWeek on campus from April 5-9 in the hopes of getting more students, faculty, and staff signed up for COVID-19 vaccinations.

Student Nurses Association Hosting Blood Drive March 25

The Finlandia University Student Nurses Association (FUSNA) will be hosting a Blood Drive on March 25 from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Chapel of St. Matthew. Donors will go to the Chapel to complete paperwork and check vital signs before donating in the bloodmobile, which will be parked in the Old Main parking lot. 

The FUSNA is partnering with UP Health Systems Regional Blood Center to sponsor the event.

Applications Open for 2021 Samuel L. Westerman Scholarship for Nursing

Update 2/25: The scholarship deadline has been extended to Wednesday, March 10. This article has been updated to reflect that change.

Nursing students heading into their junior or senior year with a GPA between 3.00 to 3.49 may be eligible for the Samuel L. Westerman Scholarship for Nursing. Application deadline for the scholarship is Thursday, March 10.

FinnU Nursing ranked a top program in Michigan by Nursing Schools Almanac for second straight year

Finlandia University’s nursing program was ranked a top program in Michigan for the second year in a row by Nursing Schools Almanac. Nursing Schools Almanac evaluated over 3,000 schools on the institution’s academic prestige and perceived value, the breadth and depth of nursing programs offered, and student success, particularly on the NCLEX licensure examination. Melissa Helppi (’18, RN, BSN) Joins Finlandia’s Nursing Faculty

Melissa Helppi (’18, RN, BSN) recently joined Finlandia’s nursing faculty as an instructor. Helppi was the 2018 student representative for Finlandia and graduated Summa Laude from FinnU’s BSN program. She has been with the university since her graduation as a professional Nursing tutor, but has now joined the faculty. Her current duties include instructing the adult medical-surgical nursing course and clinical, and being a maternal-child clinical instructor.
