On Thursday, March 2, Finlandia University’s Board of Trustees announced that FinnU will not enroll students for the 2023-2024 academic year. Announced Tuesday, March 14, the University’s Board of Trustees unanimously voted to dissolve the institution and wind up affairs in an orderly manner.

Finlandia has finalized eight Teach-Out Agreements with Adrian College, Bay College, Michigan Technological University, Northeast Wisconsin Technical College, Northern Michigan University, University of Dubuque, Waldorf University, and Wartburg College. Parade of Nations returns home to Quincy Green

Dozens of Finlandia University students and employees played part in representing nearly 60 countries in Saturday’s Parade of Nations. 

The Parade returned home to Quincy Green this year after being rerouted in 2021. Overlooked by FinnU’s historic Hirvonen Hall, community members gathered as the start of the Parade approached. Everything you need to know about Parade of Nations 2022

Ever had Indian food? How about African? Bangladeshi? You can taste all those cuisines and more at this year’s Parade of Nations on Saturday, September 17.

The Parade of Nations starts at 11 a.m. at Quincy Green in Hancock. Floats and marchers with flags and banners will walk east down Quincy Street, cross the Portage Lift Bridge, then proceed east down Shelden Avenue through downtown Houghton. The Parade of Nations will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at 11:00 AM! Student and community organizations are invited to enter floats or march in the Parade. Details about float guidelines, parade route, etc, are available here. International food returns this year!

Floats & Flags: Volunteer opportunities now open for Parade of Nations 2022

Since 1989, the Houghton and Hancock communities have been celebrating the rich cultural diversity of the Keweenaw. We are excited to continue that tradition on September 17th!

The parade begins at 11 a.m. in Hancock (Quincy Green), crosses the Portage Lift Bridge, and ends at the Dee Stadium. This amazing celebration of unity and culture is open to the entire community, and we hope you will consider participating!

Foreign exchange student designs winning Parade of Nations logo

Chiara Rapacci, a 17-year-old junior at Baraga High School, won this year’s Parade of Nations logo contest. Her design will be the official logo of the 2022 Parade of Nations, printed on T-shirts, flyers and other materials.

Rapacci is an exchange student from Italy, sponsored by International Cultural Exchange Services (ICES), a nonprofit international high school student exchange program. Her logo illustrates this year’s theme: The World is One.

The Parade of Nations has chosen a theme for its 2022 event that is extremely appropriate for the times we live in: The World is One

This year’s Parade of Nations will take place on September 17. International food returns this year, with international student organizations offering the cuisine of their countries. Food will be available for take-out only, at the Dee Stadium in Houghton.

Finlandia remains Fight the Flu champion

This winter, the Northern Michigan University Center for Rural Health brought Upper Peninsula universities together for the second annual Fight the Flu competition. Students, staff and faculty from Finlandia UniversityMichigan Technological University and Northern Michigan University competed to see which school could get the highest percentage of its total population vaccinated against the flu. Based on the self-reported statistics, the winner for the second year in a row is Finlandia University, coming in at a 17.6% vaccination rate.

Parade of Nations updates route for 2021

The annual Parade of Nations will take place this Saturday, September 18, starting at 11 a.m. at the Keweenaw Chamber of Commerce, across from the miner’s statue in Houghton. The Parade will head down the hill to Lakeshore Drive, past Dee Stadium and follow Lakeshore Drive past Bridgeview Park, ending at Kestner Park. It will not go through downtown Houghton this year.
