Gallery announce dates for upcoming exhibit receptions, Feb. 3 & 24

Finlandia University Gallery is hosting two upcoming events on Feb. 3 and 24. Experience the 31st Annual Contemporary Finnish American Artist Series Exhibition live at the Gallery on Thursday, Feb. 3 from 7 to 8 p.m. The free, open to the public reception for the artist Natalie Salminen Rude will be featuring her exhibit, “in·ter·stice: (noun) a small intervening space”.

This week, Finlandia Fridays welcomes Business Office Controller Cyril FoxPetrov to explore Finlandia’s Lily I. Jutila Center for Global Design and Business. The Center, located on the scenic banks of the Portage Canal, is less than a mile from Finlandia’s main campus and serves as a place of cultivation for students, faculty, staff and industry to learn and thrive.

Student Spotlight: Gavin Mackey, Graphic Design

Sophomore Gavin Mackey, a graphic design major and Hancock local, has two favorite things; computing and art. Ever since Mackey was in his early teens, he was messing around in Adobe Photoshop creating pixel art and posters. His love for graphic design spiraled from there.

Calumet grad, Lia Tervo, named 2020 Brule Scholarship recipient

Calumet graduate, Lia Tervo has been selected as the 2020 Brule Scholarship recipient by Finlandia University’s International School of Art & Design. The Brule Scholarship, funded by Dave and Elsa Brule, is a $20,000 competitive art scholarship for new students. Tervo plans to major in Graphic Design, which she hopes will lead to a flexible work-from-home career that will allow her to travel.

Art & Design Alumni, Robert & Stephanie Lake (’07), Provide Unique Freelancing Opportunity for Students

For Robert Lake (BFA, ’07), design has always been an important part of his life.

Leading the Pride continues in the month of June by talking with Digital Arts and Animation major, Ashlee Kranz (’16). Kranz is a freelance digital and graphic artist at her own company, Dream Chaser Studios in Goodman, WI. She has recently been involved with the movie series, Northbound, which is filmed in the UP.

Finlandia Student Hannah Smith Hosting Exhibition at CCCAC

“Technique Magnifique” is an invitational exhibition of fiber art made by local and regional artists at the Copper Country Community Arts Center’s Kerredge Gallery through the May 4. Hannah Smith, intern and  graduating senior from Finlandia University’s International School of Art & Design curated this exhibition.
