Meet your Fall 2021 Orientation Leaders

Finlandia is excited to introduce its Fall 2021 Orientation Leaders. On-Campus Orientation is a series of in-person events and activities that will introduce students to the Finlandia campus and community. Each new student will be assigned to an orientation group or “flock”, named after a bird species that is present in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Financial Aid, Football and more make the move to Nikander and Mannerheim Halls

As the nursing and PTA programs left their former office and classroom spaces in Nikander and Mannerheim Halls to move into the newly renovated Hirvonen College of Health Sciences, many others began taking their spots. Here’s a complete rundown of key campus office moves since the beginning of the semester.

From Motorhome to Tiny Home

It’s often said that less is more, and when it comes to homes one Finlandia University student found no exception. Justin Woolever, senior physical therapist assistant (PTA) major, took his future into his own hands and chose to build himself a home while attending Finlandia.

“My house is originally a 1973 Dodge Sportsman motorhome,” said Woolever. “A buddy of mine actually had the idea to turn it into a tiny house, instead of just a motorhome.”

Finlandia Fridays is feeling the love this week. Dubbed “Fin-LOVE-dia” Fridays for the Valentine’s Day special, students Tyler Kangas and Zuleiki Wight visited to share their “Fin-LOVE-dia” story.

The Finlandia gridiron with football coach Rob Boss

New head football coach Rob Boss came to chat about the future of Finlandia University football this week on Finlandia Fridays. Boss stated “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time here,” when asked about his Finlandia experience thus far. Boss joined Finlandia’s staff last fall as an assistant, and was promoted to head coach on November 6.

Finlandia names Rob Boss as head coach of football program

Finlandia University Athletic Director Curtis Wittenberg today announces the promotion of Rob Boss to head coach of the university’s football program, effective immediately.

“Rob has shown incredible leadership in his one year at Finlandia, and we’re confident his abilities, passion and experience are what our football program needs to take the next step,” Athletic Director Curtis Wittenberg said. “His passion for football in northern Michigan will be a huge asset for our program, our university and our community.”

Football team joins new Michigan-based athletic conference

Last week there was big news regarding Finlandia University’s football team as it is joining the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association as an affiliate member. Check out the announcement from last week below or at fulions.com

Finnish exchange student gets chance with FinnU football team

Though he’s a native of the country known for ice hockey and other winter sports, Max Poikonen chose a different path – one that led him to the roster of the football team of Finlandia University.  Born and raised in the town of Kerava, about 20 miles north of Helsinki, he pursued studies in athletic sciences in Kajaani in the Kainuu region.
