Summer hours return to Finlandia University Gallery / Upcoming exhibits

Finlandia University Gallery in the Finnish American Heritage Center in Hancock announces its return to spring/summer hours.  Beginning May 9th, the gallery is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

The current exhibit Finlandia University International School of Art & Design Bachelor of Fine Arts Diploma Works Exhibition is on display until May 29th.

Finlandia University Student Nurses Take Part in Free Skin Cancer Screening Event May 25

 

Finlandia University campus welcomes dermatologist, Dr. Milton Soderberg and staff to campus on Saturday, May 25 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Finnish American Heritage Center.

Soderberg will be working with Hannah Wilson, PA-C, and Jordan Brooks, MD as well as the Finlandia student nurses to conduct free screenings for skin cancer.

Previewing Diploma Works with Senior Miranda Conroy

Finlandia Fridays was visited this week by senior intermedia student, Miranda Conroy. Hailing from Ishpeming, Conroy will have her final undergraduate work featured with the rest of the graduating art students in this year’s Bachelor of Fine Arts Diploma Works exhibition. The exhibition will take place on Saturday, May 4 at 7 p.m. in the Finnish American Heritage Center.

Finnish American Heritage Center Brings Vappu Celebration to Campus

Each year the country of Finland takes a break from their daily routines to pause and celebrate together. Vappu, celebrated on May 1, marks the end of winter. The holiday also serves as international recognition day of labor.

Finnish American Reporter Welcomes New Intern Olli Romppanen

There is a new face at the Finnish American Reporter (FAR) this summer, Finnish intern Olli Romppanen. Romppanen arrived in mid-March and will be staying until September.

Coming from Joensuu, a town in North Karelia, Romppanen has degrees in education, art and design, and most recently social science.
