Finnish musical instrument maker Minna Hokka coming to area in June

Boat building open house set for November 1

Master boat builder Alex Comb from Northern Minnesota has been teaching a group of Calumet High School woodworking students the art of building a Finnish-style rowboat for the past four weeks. On Thursday, November 1, the public is invited to see what they’ve learned.

Get to know Jouhikko – the instrument people hate to love – at Juhannus

There’ll be plenty of Finnish American Folk School offerings at Juhannus this year. In addition to welcoming the Finnish band Jepokryddona, Hancock resident and stringed instrument builder Alice Margerum will lead a workshop in the construction of the Finnish instrument jouhikko.

Heritage Center to launch Finnish American folk school
