Phyllis Fredendall, Professor of Fiber and Fashion Design at Finlandia University’s International School of Art and Design, is exhibiting a collection of her fabric art works in Rhinelander. The ArtStart group will commence their 2017 exhibition season on Thursday, March 16. The exhibits will feature not only Fredendall’s work, but also the paintings of Sofia Arnold.
Fredendall’s exhibit, entitled Mapping Memory, features her hand-felted works comprised of wool and silk, and expresses her personal exploration of history and family.
This week Finlandia Fridays is joined by senior nursing student Laura Kent, who was featured in the fall 2016 edition of the Bridge. Finlandia University has been in heavy pursuit to grow its presence on Snapchat and is inviting you to be a part of it. Finlandia’s Snapchat (FinlandiaU) posts daily to inform its students and staff about upcoming events and other ways to be involved within the community. Recently the account visited a local tradition, a mid winter celebration known as Heikinpäivä.

This week on Finlandia Fridays we feature Finlandia’s men’s ice hockey coach Joe Burcar as he previews the future of the program and the ongoing season. The Houghton County Arena is a very familiar place for Burcar, winning the Harris Cup in 2007 and finishing his first stint with the team at a 104-96-11 record. Burcar remains the all-time winningest coach in program history, and plans to continue his legacy.
