It was the middle of June when Megan Gmitro arrived to begin her summer internship with Finlandia University, a place that holds so much of her family history. Gmitro is the great granddaughter of former FinnU president Antti Lepistö. Lepistö served as president from 1927 to 1930 after moving to Hancock from Mäntyharju, Finland. Finlandia University is saddened to announce the passing of former university president, Robert Ubbelohde.
Ubbelohde joined Finlandia, then Suomi College, in 1988 as the Dean of Faculty. Shortly after, he was appointed to President and Professor of Philosophy until his retirement in 2007. Ubbelohde was instrumental in converting Suomi College into Finlandia University, a baccalaureate degree granting institution.

Finlandia students created a delicious array of food for their fellow students, staff, and faculty, and community members at the annual Diversity Dinner last night. Dishes included bolitas de mofongo, arroz con leche, jambalaya, carne frita, sushi, and karjalan piirakka with egg butter. Thanks to all the students and staff for making this event possible!
