Early Bird Scholarship available for incoming students who submit transcripts by Jan. 1

Finlandia University is awarding a new, one-time $500 scholarship for Fall 2022 to students who submit their transcripts to Finlandia Admissions by Jan. 1, 2022. The Early Bird Scholarship is awarded to the student upon acceptance to the university.

Rajala joins Financial Aid staff

Finlandia’s Financial Aid department recently welcomed alumna Jenna Rajala (’15) as the new Coordinator of Student Accounts. Rajala started her higher education journey as a Finlandia student in 2004 and returned to finish her Physical Therapist Assistant degree at the university in 2015.

“This will be my third adventure at Finlandia but my first experience as a staff member,” Rajala said.

Work-Study job openings posted for 2021-22

Finlandia University has posted its Federal Work-Study Program student job openings for the 2021-22 school year. The program, led by Financial Aid Counselor Marie Bonenfant, is administered and coordinated by the Office of Financial Aid and Human Resources. Finlandia receives funds each year from the federal government to administer the program and pay the students. The program encourages community service and work related to the student’s course of study whenever possible.

Finlandia Alumni Board raises $15,000 for student textbooks

The Finlandia Alumni Board (FAB) started Giving Day in 2019 determined to give back to current students in the way of textbook awards. Recipients receive a gift certificate to North Wind Books in the amount of $250 to help offset the rising cost of textbooks. 35 students received textbook awards in 2019, with almost $9,000 raised. Student application now open for $250 Alumni Association Textbook Awards

Finlandia students who are enrolled for Fall 2021 are encouraged to apply for a $250 Alumni Association Textbook Award. The Award, given in the form of a North Wind Books gift certificate, is open to all students who meet the following the criteria:

The free application will be open until Friday, August 6 at 4:30 p.m. and recipients will be notified by August 16.

Fall 2021 Hancock Promise recipients announced

Through an educational collaboration between Finlandia University and Hancock Central High School, the Hancock Promise allows for Hancock Central High School graduates to attend Finlandia University at a tuition cost of up to only $2,500 per school year. Hancock Central held their graduation ceremony Saturday, May 29, following a senior parade that proceeded down Quincy Street. Finlandia Alumni Board hosting Giving Day 2021 to raise money for textbook awards

The Finlandia Alumni Board is hosting their third Giving Day on June 16, 2021. The day is dedicated to raising money to help students pay for textbooks and will feature Facebook and social media announcements, information on textbook costs, and conversations with past textbook award winners and FAB members!

FAFSA deadline extended to May 1 for MI aid

Students who want to be given priority consideration for state of Michigan financial aid programs now have some extra time to complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid, according to the Michigan Department of Treasury.
