Finnish American Folk School adds ceramics and music classes

The Finnish American Folk School at Finlandia University has introduced a new line-up of workshops for spring and early summer. For the first time, ceramics joins music and fiber arts on the list of learning opportunities. Artist Lindsey Heiden will teach Ceramic Wall Flowers for Spring May 2, 3, and 10 from 1-4 p.m. in the Jutila Center Ceramic Studio. Folk School hosting Saturday, Jan. 29 concert & workshop

Tickets are still available for Laurel Premo’s workshop and concert this weekend, January 29th at the Finnish American Heritage Center. Premo will be teaching a Finnish tune workshop for all instruments from 2-4 p.m. and then performing a concert at 7 p.m. This workshop and concert are made possible by generous funding from the American Scandinavian Foundation.

Finnish American Folk School hosts music and crafts classes at Finlandia

Hancock, MI – Fall courses are underway at the Finnish American Folk School’s Festival Ruska in Hancock. Registration is still open for some classes and workshops, including two unique musical opportunities. Kay Seppala will teach 5-String Kantele for Beginners in the Finnish American Heritage Center Hall in Hancock on Tuesdays October 12-November 9 from 6:30-7:30pm. The kantele, a plucked lap harp, is the national instrument of Finland. Students may bring their own kantele or borrow one from the Heritage Center. [...]
