Virtanen elected to Finlandia Foundation National Board of Trustees

At their March board meeting in Dallas, Finlandia Foundation National trustees elected Dr. Hilary-Joy Virtanen to a three-year term on the board. Virtanen, a native of nearby Toivola, is the Finnish & Nordic Studies professor at Finlandia University. She holds a Master’s and Ph.D. in Scandinavian Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison; an MA from Indiana University; and a BA from Michigan State University. Tonight a group of high-achieving freshmen was installed into the Finlandia University chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society for First-Year Students. It was a wonderful event with family members, faculty and staff and fellow students on hand.

Library of Congress makes Dr. Virtanen’s speech available

In October Assistant Professor of Finnish and Nordic Studies Dr. Hilary-Joy Virtanen was welcomed to Washington D.C. to be one of three panelists at the Library of Congress for an Embassy of Finland symposium exploring the history and future of the Finnish language. Video from that symposium is now available on the Library of Congress website.
