Students: Don’t Forget to Complete Your Census by Sept. 30

September 8, 2020

Whether you live on campus or at home with family, you need to be counted for the 2020 Census. You should count yourself where you live and sleep most of the time. For a vast majority of Finlandia students, this is in Hancock, MI. Relatives you stay with during breaks should not count you in their census questionnaire.

Why complete the census?

Statistics from the 2020 Census will impact funding for college student programs such as:

  • School safety
  • Mental health services
  • Student wellness programs
  • Federal Pell Grant Programs
  • Medicaid

On-campus residents

If you life on-campus, you should reply to the 2020 Census online, by mail, or by phone. You should count yourself at your on-campus address even if you go somewhere else for breaks.

off-campus residents

If you life off-campus, you should reply to the 2020 Census online, by mail, or by phone. You should count yourself at your off-campus address even if you go somewhere else for breaks.

One person from your shared apartment or house should fill out the census questionnaire on behalf of your household and include information on everyone who lives there. If you are not sure whether your roommate has already responded to you, please respond and include everyone who normally lives with you at school as there are tools to unduplicate responses. If you live off campus with your family throughout the school year, your family should count you on its census questionnaire.
