Nordic Music Workshop coming to Hancock on October 6

September 20, 2018

Copper Country residents and visitors are invited to a unique Nordic Music Workshop on Saturday, October 6 at 2 p.m. at the Finnish American Heritage Center.

Come to learn more about unusual and beautiful Nordic instruments like the hardingfele, the nyckelharpa, the theorbo, and some not so unusual and complimentary instruments like the viola da gamba, fiddle, banjo and bass.

As a part of Finlandia University’s Festival Ruska the musicians from this year’s Beethoven and Banjos Music Festival will be on hand to lead small group classes on individual instruments as well as larger ensemble workshops. Bring along your instruments if your desire is to learn a Nordic tune or techniques. If you have no instrument but have a desire to learn about these instruments and music from musicians from Sweden, Norway and the U.S., then don’t miss this opportunity. You can learn more about all the musicians at beethovenandbanjos.org.

To sign up for the workshop please call David Maki at the Finnish American Heritage Center. His phone number is (906) 487-7549. The cost is $10 per student.
