Business department adds pair of key faculty members

FInlandia University is pleased to welcome Laura Sieders and Paul Werner to their new positions in the International School of Business.

Sieders, who has served as FinnU’s Adjunct Professor in Intermediate Accounting for the past two years, will become the new Instructor of Accounting. Werner will be the Assistant Professor in Marketing.

Both will begin in their new roles in August.

Alissa Pietila never thought she’d be working for a television station, let alone leading her own segment on the five o’clock news.

Pietila, a 2014 Finlandia University alumna, graduated with a bachelor’s in communication with a concentration in journalism and a minor in psychology. Pergande earned his Bachelor of Arts in English and his Master of Arts in Creative Writing from Northern Michigan University. Finlandia now offers priority registration for transfer students

As part of its commitment to be a transfer-friendly leader, Finlandia University enacted a new policy this spring that allows students transferring into the university to have priority registration.

“Finlandia recognizes that transfer students have specific scheduling needs and this policy aims to keep those students on track to degree completion in the shortest time possible,” Dean of Students Erin Barnett said.

Finlandia nursing program awarded Towsley grant for new HAL simulation mannequin

Finlandia University’s nursing program just grew by one.

Not one person. One mannequin.

Thanks to a grant by the Harry A. and Margaret D. Towsley Foundation, FinnU’s nursing program was able to purchase a new state-of-the-art HAL S3000 simulation mannequin for students to practice on.

This summer, from June 11 to July 12, 2018, approximately 35 area high school students will experience the daily routines of college freshmen on the Finlandia University campus. The TRIO Upward Bound (UB) summer students live in the Finlandia Hall, attend demanding daily classes, complete homework, meet new people and, of course, eat three meals daily in Finlandia’s cafeteria.
