New Student Orientation Goes Virtual

Finlandia is excited to deliver our New Student Orientation (NSO) content in a self-paced, online platform this year. Students will complete four modules in Canvas that will feature videos and quizzes. Each module will highlight different resources on campus and go over important information for the transition to and success at Finlandia University. All new students must complete the orientation by August 31.

Module 1: Welcome to FinnU – Where you are and who you are with.
Module 2: Staying Healthy and Safe – An introduction to the resources and policies Finlandia offers to keep our entire community healthy and safe.
Module 3: Learning the FinnU Way – Programs, people, and strategies to help you achieve your academic goals.
Module 4: Student Rights and Responsibilities – What’s expected of you and what’s expected of us.

How to find NSO

Go to https://www.finlandia.edu/
In the upper-right corner, you’ll see an assortment of little icons. When you hover over them with your mouse, you’ll see that the first one on the left, between Apply and the email icon, says “Canvas” — click this icon (it’s round and looks a bit like a starburst).
A new tab should open with the Canvas Login Page.
To log into Canvas, you will use the same information you use to log into your Finlandia email account.
Once logged in, you’ll see a blue box that says “Fall 2020 FinnU New Student Orientation” Click that box.
You’re now in the Virtual NSO! Use the Modules tab on the left to locate the content.

NSO Events

FinnU is committed to providing a full, safe college experience this semester. Normally, New Student Orientation events only last for a few days, but this year we’re expanding our offerings to last for the first two weeks as we welcome you to campus. Check our calendar of events and social media regularly for socially distanced events on campus such as the weekly All Means All Community Meal and events hosted by Student Senate and other groups on campus.

THURSDAY AUGUST 27

9PM | Movies on Quincy Green:
Bring a blanket and some snacks and enjoy The Call of the Wild, featuring Harrison Ford. Weather permitting. No sign up required.

MONDAY AUGUST 30

7:15PM | All Means All Community Meal: Home cooked food by students for students. Bring your Ozzi container, if you have one, to the Chapel of St. Matthew’s and pick up a free dinner made by fellow students.

THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 3

8:30PM | Movies on Quincy Green: Bring a blanket and some snacks and enjoy the summer classic, The Sandlot. Weather permitting. No sign up required.

SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 5

10AM | Bare Bluff Hike with the President: Van departs Finlandia Hall at 10am. Following hike, refreshments at Johnson’s Eagle Harbor cottage. 6 participant max. Sign up here.
