Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Director of Facilities Management, the Maintenance Worker is responsible for routine preventative and corrective maintenance to university buildings and equipment.  The Maintenance Worker is also responsible for grounds upkeep and other assigned tasks.

Required Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma
  2. Prior work experience in the maintenance field or skilled trades
  3. Knowledge of tools and materials used in skilled trades
  4. Ability to perform basic carpentry work
  5. Ability to work without direct supervision
  6. Good interpersonal and communication skills 
  7. A strong work ethic, integrity, and a positive attitude
  8.  Ability to work a flexible schedule including week-ends and occasional evenings, as required
  9. A valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record
  10. Ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds, and perform physical tasks

Desired Qualifications:

  1. Certificate or diploma from an apprenticeship program or vocational/technical school in a maintenance- or repair-related field
  2. Prior experience in plumbing, pipefitting, welding, and maintenance of heating and chilled water systems
  3. Knowledge of air conditioning and HVAC controls
  4. Knowledge of simple electrical circuits 
  5. Ability to write job specifications for material and to plan routine job repair

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Work on general assignments from a work-order system
  2. Work from blueprints, drawings, schematic diagrams, instruction manuals, and/or verbal instruction
  3. Perform general maintenance of university buildings and grounds including but not limited to garbage collection, lawn mowing and related trimming, and snow removal
  4. Perform basic repairs and maintenance on equipment including but not limited to heating systems, electrical circuits, and plumbing.
  5. Work from blueprints, drawings, schematic diagrams, instruction manuals, and/or verbal instruction
  6. Adhere to university policies and procedures
  7. Work collegially and professionally with students, employees, and external constituents
  8. Support institutional identity and mission of Finlandia University as “a learning community dedicated to academic excellence, spiritual growth, and service”
  1. Perform other duties as requested
