Position Summary:  The Director of Esports will assist the Director of Athletics with all facets of the program start up.  In addition, the Director will plan, organize and administer all facets of the varsity program. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to: recruitment of student-athletes, development and implementation of practice sessions and competition schedules, coordinating staff for individual and team improvement, actively organize and participate in fundraising activities, promote the academic success of student-athletes, manage the Esports space – including student and public use, develop and administer budgets, and budget reporting.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree.
  2. Strong interpersonal, management and communication skills.
  3. Demonstrated success of recruiting student-athlete prospects.
  4. Knowledge of, and experience working with multiplayer online video games.
  5. Strong work ethic, integrity and a positive attitude.
  6. Adaptable to a dynamic environment characteristic of an institution experiencing enrollment growth and program development.

Desired Qualifications:

  1. Master’s degree in Sports Management or Business field.
  2. Two years collegiate coaching/playing experience.
  3. Demonstrated success of recruiting student-athlete prospects.
  4. Experience in relationship development and/or sales.
  5. Candidates with teaching experience will be given special consideration.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Recruitment for the inaugural season of 20 program specific student-athletes to the university and then no fewer than 10 each year following in the sport of Esports.
  2. Collaborate with the athletic academic coordinator and university faculty to monitor academic progress of student-athletes to ensure that athletic eligibility and academic standards are maintained.
  3. Provide leadership to ensure that athletes conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with university and athlete code of conduct working directly with the Director of Athletics, Dean of Students, and related staff of the Student Development Division.
  4. Secure a schedule of competition to be approved by the Director of Athletics with other collegiate varsity Esports programs.
  5. Report results to the Sports Information Director.
  6. Oversee team budgets and operate team within budget limits.
  7. Develop and promote summer camp programs designed for youth skill enhancement.
  8. Assist the Strength and Conditioning Coordinator develop, implement, and monitor conditioning and skills enhancement programs designed to improve student athletic ability and performance.
  9. Adhere to all NACE and Finlandia University rules and regulations governing collegiate athletics and the sport of Esports.
  10. Demonstrate support for and engagement with Finlandia’s strategic vision to become more fully a whole learning community accompanying the whole student toward a whole life.
  11. Perform other duties as required.
