Position Summary:  The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) works closely with the President to lead all University business and finance activities in order that the University’s strategic vision be most fully realized.  The CFO is charged with showing continuous and measurable improvement in the following areas: annual budgeting processes, audit reports, financial ratio scores, net tuition revenue increases, cost control, and debt management.

The ideal candidate will be one who relishes the opportunities and challenges of higher education finances today, who seeks the year-around recreational benefits of the pristine north woods of Lake Superior, and who values a quality of life and work that a small campus and upper Great Lakes communities offer.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in business management, with a concentration in accounting and/or finance.
  2. Seven years of experience in business and finance management, with evidence of progressive responsibility.  Ideal candidate will have experience in the business office of a university.
  3. Demonstrated advanced accounting skills and the ability to build and interpret complex financial statements.
  4. Knowledge of audit procedures and protocols. Ability to lead annual internal audit processes.
  5. Proficiency in accounting and reporting software programs.
  6. Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and experience in budget management and planning, including regular reporting and forecasting.
  7. Demonstrated leadership with both internal and external constituents.
  8. A documented record of effectiveness in planning, goal achievement, team-building, and management.
  9. Strong people, presentation, and communication skills.
  10. Exceptional time management and creative problem solving abilities.
  11. A demonstrated ability to achieve results with limited resources.

Desired Qualifications:

  1. Familiarity with Finlandia’s local and regional context.
  2. Prior experience as a Chief Financial Officer.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee all aspects of the annual budgeting processes.
  2. Oversee all aspects of the accounting and reporting.
  3. Manage cash flow planning and ensure funds availability.
  4. Demonstrate support for and engagement with Finlandia’s strategic vision to become more fully a whole learning community accompanying the whole student toward a whole life.
