On Saturday, July 23, dozens of Hancock Central High School alumni gathered on the steps of Hirvonen Hall for an all-class photo at the building’s grand reopening ceremony. The former Hancock Public Schools building now serves as the proud home of Finlandia’s professionally accredited health sciences offerings.

Following the class photo, Finlandia President Tim Pinnow greeted those in attendance:

Canal Run 2022 | Photo Gallery

On July 16, President Tim Pinnow joined Finlandia University faculty, staff, and even Riku the Lion, for a day of volunteering at the 47th Annual Canal Run. FinnU volunteers helped out by assisting at the various water stops, handing out awards at the finish line and guiding participants.

In 1922, Martti Nisonen began his career at Suomi College, now Finlandia University, quickly gaining popularity as a profound teacher of music and prolific composer. Before his passing in 1946, Nisonen amassed more than 10 linear feet of compositions and arrangements now safely stored at Finlandia’s Finnish American Heritage Center and Historical Archive.

17 receive Hancock Promise for Fall 2022

At Hancock Central High School’s Senior Awards Night on May 17, Finlandia’s Education Partner Manager and Dual Enrollment Advisor Lauren Huested proudly presented 18 students with awards and scholarships to attend FinnU in Fall 2022. Jaidyn Laroe was the sole recipient of the free full tuition Rise Together Scholarship and 17 received the Hancock Promise.

A year of anniversary celebrations will culminate in late June at Finlandia University, as the 125-year-old institution celebrates Juhannus (Midsummer) in a one-of-a-kind experience.
