Dr. Cassandra Hill named dean of Suomi College of Arts & Sciences

Associate professor will also serve as interim dean of the International School of Art & Design

Finlandia University has hired Dr. Cassandra (Carlson) Hill as dean of Suomi College of Arts & Sciences and interim dean of the International School of Art & Design. Hill began her duties on July 1.

Student Spotlight: Gavin Mackey, Graphic Design

Sophomore Gavin Mackey, a graphic design major and Hancock local, has two favorite things; computing and art. Ever since Mackey was in his early teens, he was messing around in Adobe Photoshop creating pixel art and posters. His love for graphic design spiraled from there.

Finlandia University’s International School of Art & Design (ISAD) 2021 Bachelor of Fine Arts Diploma Works Exhibition is featured from April 28 to July 22, 2021, at the Finlandia University Gallery. The Finlandia University Gallery is located in the Finnish American Heritage Center in Hancock.

Student Spotlight: Valerie Helminen, Graphic Design

Sophomore Valerie Helminen, a graphic design major from Calumet, Mich. couldn’t seem to find the right fit when it came to colleges. Having previously attended Michigan Tech and four other schools, Helminen was looking for her next move. Virtual ISAD Student Juried Exhibit and Fashion Show happening April 1

A juried exhibit of artwork by students in the Finlandia University International School of Art & Design (ISAD) is featured at the Finlandia University Gallery from March 26 through April 20, 2021.

A Zoom reception for the artists will take place on Thursday, April 1, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. A video of the student and alumni fashion show will be presented during the zoom reception, followed by a presentation of awards for artistic excellence.

ISAD program undergoing changes for Fall 2021

Finlandia’s International School of Art & Design (ISAD) will be undergoing program changes beginning in the Fall 2021. 

Beginning fall 2021, FinnU will no longer accept new students into the Fiber & Fashion, Intermedia, and Ceramic Design bachelor degree programs. These programs are not completely closed, but enrollment interest over the years has waned and ISAD Dean Denise Vandeville says the programs will be suspended until enrollment interest grows and the school can sustain its re-emergence.
