Textbook Giving Day 2022 is today!

Giving Day 2022 starts now!

Join the Finlandia Alumni Board for a day dedicated to raising money to help students pay for textbooks. The Finlandia Alumni Board seeks to raise $10,000 and is looking to share this message to support their cause. To learn more about how to give back to Finlandia’s students, visit finlandia.edu/givingday. Every $250 awards another FinnU student a textbook scholarship!

Giving Day 2022 is one week away!

The Finlandia Alumni Board is hosting its fourth Giving Day on June 14, 2022. The day is dedicated to raising money to help students pay for textbooks.

In 2021, the FAB helped 49 students with their textbooks and was able to help fund two student support initiatives by donating to Finlandia’s Textbook Justice Library and North Wind Books. Finlandia Esports Valorant National Champions

Esports win 2022 Valorant National Championship

It was a dominating performance as the Finlandia University Esports team for Valorant (9-7) beat British Columbia Marine (14-1) 3-0 (13-3, 13-7, 13-2) for the NECC National Championship in the Navigators Division.

This is the first national championship for the Esports program, which finished their second season. It’s the third national title for Lions athletics, the first in 18 years.

FinnU named to Best Bachelor’s Degree Colleges

Finlandia University was recently named among the best for bachelor’s degrees in the State of Michigan in 2022 by University Headquarters.

Among the most important factors in the ranking system of University HQ is accreditation and the Higher Learning Commission provides that to Finlandia University with institutional accreditation. Physical Therapy Assistant and Nursing programs at Finlandia are also accredited. Finlandia Esports advance to quarterfinals in NECC Rocket League National Tournament

Finlandia University’s Esports Rocket League team has advanced to the quarterfinals of the NECC National Tournament after going 2-1 in the qualifying round of the double-elimination tournament. At 3 p.m. today, May 16, FinnU will open quarterfinal play against GFU Academy. The winning team will advance to the semifinals held tonight at 6 p.m.

Finlandia University names Tim Pinnow as next president

Finlandia University has elected Tim Pinnow, Senior Vice President for Strategic Initiatives at Colorado Mesa University (CMU), as its 17th president following a unanimous vote by the University’s Board of Trustees. He will assume his presidency on July 1, 2022.

Finlandia names head coach for revival of Lions Cross Country

Finlandia University will be adding to its slate of intercollegiate athletic programs this fall. Hired to lead the resurgence of Lions Cross Country in its first season since 2018 is Head Coach Tony Skiles.

Bridge Feature: Hirvonen Hall provides new Esports arena

Instructional renovations at Hirvonen Hall have provided Finlandia’s Esports program with a new state-of-the-art arena. With well over 20 active players, the new space includes 14 top-of-the-line personal computers, 4k TVs, numerous consoles, a VR machine and a green screen streaming studio. Opening their doors for Finlandia students, their family and friends to enjoy the new equipment, Esports hosts open houses on Fridays and Saturdays from 6 p.m. to midnight and Sundays 1 to 7 p.m.

Campus & Community: Together for Good

It is not taking long at all for the new name to catch on: Hirvonen Hall.

Named for Peg and Ray Hirvonen in recognition of the family’s legacy of extraordinary leadership and generosity, the iconic former Hancock Central High School building now delivers Finlandia’s gold-star accredited health sciences programs. Women’s Soccer becomes first team to meet FinnU Vacc to School Challenge

Finlandia Women’s Soccer program achieved their first goal of the year by reaching a teamwide 80 percent vaccination status. This goal came as part of the FinnU Vacc to School Challenge, which includes the campus-wide objective of reaching a vaccination status of 70 percent. For athletics, reaching that mark at the team level means maskless practices and travel.
