FinnU and Finlandia Foundation National announce intentions to preserve history and heritage

Finlandia University in Hancock, Michigan and Finlandia Foundation National, Inc. (FFN), based in Pasadena, California, announce intentions that aim to ensure the preservation of Finlandia University’s Finnish-American heritage and history.

March 15 Spring Colloquium to feature new faculty books about Grammy winning musician and life as a professor in the ‘North Country’

Finlandia University’s Suomi College of Arts & Sciences presents the 2023 Spring Colloquium celebrating two new faculty books. This year’s event will feature a reading, dialogue and book signing by authors Dr. Carolyn Dekker and Dr. William Knoblauch.

Reception postponed for 2023 Faculty Exhibit at Finlandia University Gallery

HANCOCK, MI – Due to predicted inclement weather, the artist reception for Finlandia University’s International School of Art and Design Faculty Exhibit, originally scheduled for Thursday, February 23rd, has been postponed. The new reception date will be announced once scheduling can be confirmed.

The exhibit is currently open to the public for viewing. Please visit the gallery between 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday to view the faculty exhibit and watch for the announcement of the rescheduled reception.

Applications now being accepted for 2023 Ryan Bessolo, MSN, RN, CMSRN Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Nursing program students entering into their junior and senior year are invited to apply

Applications are now being accepted for the Ryan Bessolo, MSN, RN, CMSRN Memorial Endowed Scholarship. The application deadline for the scholarship is Monday, March 13, 2023.

Nursing students heading into their junior or senior year with a GPA of 3.25 GPA or higher may be eligible for the scholarship. Qualified applicants must be continuing their nursing studies at Finlandia University the following year.

Ryan Bessolo, 1989-2022: Memorial scholarship created in honor of alum

Created by his parents, Laurel and Michael Bessolo, and sister, Amy Kemppainen, Finlandia University alumnus and former nursing clinical instructor Ryan Bessolo (’11) will be remembered for years to come through the formation of an endowed scholarship in his name.

The 5th annual reading marathon of The Kalevala will kick off at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 28, and will continue until the last rune has been read. Nordic Film Series continues with comedy-drama set in northern Finland

The February selection of the Nordic Film Series at Finlandia University’s Finnish American Heritage Center is a gripping, unconventional drama, “The Cuckoo.” The film will be shown on Wednesday, February 15 at 2 p.m. at the Heritage Center. Finlandia’s campus was filled with the buzz of midwinter spirit as patrons gathered at FinnU’s Finnish American Heritage Center and North Wind Books to celebrate the return of Heikinpäivä in 2023. Following the traditional parade, festivities on campus included wife-carrying competitions, kicksleds, a costumed circle dance, and a market.
