Registration for summer and fall now open for all students

Registration for fall and summer classes is now underway for all students. Your first step is to see your academic advisor to get your PIN.  This will allow you to sign up for classes online. In addition, you will need to clear any holds that may be on your account (billing, financial aid, admissions, etc.).

Finnish American Heritage Center to host pop-up film festival

Ever since he visited his relatives in the Copper Country last spring, screenwriter and Tornio, Finland native Mikko Myllylahti has been eager to come back to the area to show the award-winning film he wrote. On Thursday, April 12, at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., he’ll accomplish this mission.

Diversity Dinner set for April 18

A photo from the 2017 Diversity Dinner event at FinnU. This year’s event is April 18.

The annual Diversity Dinner date is Wednesday, April 18th from 5 to 8 p.m. in Finlandia Hall’s café. Dinner will be free to Finlandia University students and $10 for everyone else. Tickets will be available at the door. More information will be made available closer to the event. If you’re interested in getting involved, please contact Director of Residence Life Leann Fogle.

With Easter right around the corner, campus pastor Soren Schmidt visited Finlandia Fridays this week to promote the multitude of events taking place within the next month. Studying the Biology Degree with Assistant Professor Dr. Emily Geiger

Assistant Professor of Biochemistry Dr. Emily Geiger stopped by Finlandia Fridays this week to talk about the biology degree offered at FinnU. This is Dr. Geiger’s second year of teaching at Finlandia. Upon her arrival, both science labs had been newly renovated, thanks to Portage Health System. With the renovations, Dr. Geiger mentioned that students now have their own individual work spaces, and more classes can be offered, like organic chemistry, due to the upgraded equipment.

Participants needed for capstone research survey next week

This senior communications capstone study will gather data on what emotions voluntary participants feel from looking at photographs as well as which photograph(s) stay with them or stood out as most memorable to them.

This study will gather voluntary participant information based on observing printed photographs that will be displayed in the Reflections Gallery in the Jutila Center starting on Monday, March 26th and ending on Friday, March 30th. Internationally respected Lutheran Bishop leading public event April 2 at Finlandia

Finlandia University will be welcoming Bishop Munib Younan of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land (ELCJHL) to the Copper Country on Monday, April 2.

Bisoph Younan will speak during a public presentation titled “An Interfaith Perspective: Christian-Jewish-Muslim Dialogue.” That event will begin at 7 p.m. on Finlandia University’s campus, likely in the Chapel of St. Matthew. The annual Portage Health Foundation Scholarship opportunity for Finlandia University students studying healthcare and coming from Houghton, Keweenaw, Baraga or Ontonagon counties is now accepting applications.

Rutkowski accepts Academic Career Coach position at Finlandia

Finlandia University has welcomed Marquette-native Sophie Rutkowski to the position of Academic/Career Coach in the TRIO Student Support Services office. Rutkowski has a Master’s Degree in Psychosocial Aspects of Sport and Physical Activity and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, both earned with nearly a perfect grade point average from Michigan State University.
