Dr. Virtanen to speak at symposium at Library of Congress

Stepping into Studio Days with Denise Vandeville

Finlandia Fridays was visited this week by Denise Vandeville, Dean of the International School of Art and Design (ISAD), to discuss a new opportunity being offered to high school students called Studio Days. Studio Days allows high school students to come in and “try out” the various art programs offered at Finlandia.

The Finlandia University men’s and women’s basketball teams are proud to announce the inaugural FinnU Midnight Madness. The event, which kicks off the 2017-18 basketball season, will be at the Paavo Nurmi Center, Saturday, October 14 beginning at 10 p.m.

Finnish artist Rita Jokiranta bringing “Beyond Horizons” to Hancock

Finlandia University Gallery will present the work of Finnish visual artist Rita Jokiranta. Beyond Horizons will be on display at the Finlandia University Gallery, located in the Finnish American Heritage Center, Hancock, from October 19 to December 1, 2017.

Dr. Jason Oyadomari, Dean of Suomi College of Arts & Sciences and Chair of Curriculum Committee, will be the host of the first Brown Bag Lunch and Learn of the 2017-18 academic year. Finlandia to participate in mobile mentoring pilot-project with Finnish education technology expert Mesensei

Beginning in November, Finlandia students and alumni will be participating in an innovative pilot-project utilizing a mobile mentoring application developed by the Helsinki-based Mesensei – a leader in education technology.  The project is expected to last three months during which time between 20-40 student-mentor pairs will utilize the application and give feedback on its features and usability as a mobile mentoring platform.

Swinging away with Aubrey Havlichek and Finlandia volleyball

This week Finlandia Fridays is joined by its first guest from the Finlandia University athletics department, head volleyball coach Aubrey Havlichek. Havlichek is in her first season as head coach for the women’s volleyball team here at Finlandia after taking over as interim coach early during the 2016 season. Blue Line Club hosting pancake breakfast on October 14

The Finlandia Blue Line Club’s annual pancake breakfast is Saturday, October 14 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Wiitanen Room at Houghton County Arena. This breakfast benefits the men’s and women’s hockey programs at Finlandia University.
