Student Nurses Association hosting breakfast benefit for Omega House

The Finlandia University Student Nurses Association (FUSNA) is hosting its second annual Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, February 24 at Gloria Dei Church in Hancock from 8 a.m. to noon. The proceeds will benefit the Omega House in Houghton.

Tickets will be available at the door for a $5 donation per person. Carry out is available, and all of those in attendance are invited to participate in a raffle.

Library of Congress makes Dr. Virtanen’s speech available

In October Assistant Professor of Finnish and Nordic Studies Dr. Hilary-Joy Virtanen was welcomed to Washington D.C. to be one of three panelists at the Library of Congress for an Embassy of Finland symposium exploring the history and future of the Finnish language. Saint-Onge named Director of Admissions

Finlandia University has named alumnus Collin Saint-Onge (’14) to the role of Director of Admissions.

“I’m excited because I hope to make an impact not only on Finlandia, but the surrounding community as well,” Saint-Onge said. “I see this as an opportunity to change the landscape of Finlandia for the better.”

Fundraising event Saturday from 11:30 to 2 at Jutila Center

For Finlandia University’s International School of Art & Design this weekend’s big event isn’t taking place at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, it’s taking place right in the Jutila Center as students, alumni, community members and employees are getting together for the annual Soup-A-Bowl.

Students: CopperDog 150 needs you (and you need CopperDog)

The CopperDog 150 is a three-stage competitive sled dog race that travels all across the Keweenaw Peninsula. This year the race runs March 2-4, with stops in Calumet, Eagle harbor and Copper Harbor. The CopperDog has built a fantastic reputation in mushing community, based largely in the volunteers that turn out in droves to keep them safe and make them feel welcome.

February Nordic Film Series screening explores Sami heritage

The February showing of the Nordic Film Series at Finlandia University’s Finnish American Heritage Center (FAHC) will feature “Suddenly Sami,” a documentary that follows the director’s personal quest to discover her Sami heritage.

Women’s hockey team hosting benefit for CC Humane Society

Finlandia University women’s hockey team is hosting a fundraiser, Paws for Pucks, on Saturday, February 3 for the Copper Country Humane Society. The event will coincide with the Lions game against St. Scholastica at 12:30 p.m. at the Houghton County Arena.

There will be raffle prizes and a jersey auction. All proceeds will go to the humane society.
