Criminal Justice alumna, Louise Owens (’80), dedicated to helping others at work and home

Louise Owens ’80 with her two grandchildren.

Louise Owens (‘80) always wanted to be two things: a police officer and a mother. Although she had been interested in criminal justice since kindergarten, she never imagined herself going to college. She assumed she would enter the workforce as a secretary. Until the day she saw a sign for Suomi College.

International Business alumnus Walker Enstad (’17) finds success at Freud America

Walker Enstad (’17), an alumnus of the International Business program in the International School of Business, shares some insight into life after college and what he enjoyed most about attending Finlandia. While at FinnU, Enstad was a goalie for the Men’s Hockey team, interned in the Marketing & Communications department, and graduated on the Dean’s List with a 3.94 GPA. He currently works as a District Sales Manager for Paavo Nurmi Center strenght and conditioning center.

FinnU and Suomi alumni eligible for discounted Paavo Nurmi membership

Finlandia University and Suomi College alumni can take advantage of a 30 percent discount on an annual membership for the Paavo Nurmi Strength and Fitness Center. The cost, usually $260 for community members, is only $200 for alumni for an annual membership. The full breakdown can be seen in the chart below. Those interested in a membership can sign up at the Paavo Nurmi during regular business hours or contact Michael Bond at michael.bond@finlandia.edu or 906-487-7459.

Finlandia Alumni Board Calls for New Member Nominations

The Finlandia Alumni Board (FAB) is accepting nominations for new members. Interested Suomi or Finlandia alumni can self-nominate here. The board is looking to bring on 2-4 new members and nominations will be accepted until August 30, 2019.

As an advisory group to the university, the mission of the FAB is “the promotion of the vision, mission, goals and programs of Finlandia University.” The goals of the FAB include:

Alumni Needed for New Alumni Advocates Program

Finlandia University Admissions and Alumni Relations is introducing a new program that will connect alumni with prospective students. The program, titled Alumni Advocates, will pair a Suomi College or Finlandia alumnus/a with a prospective student with the same academic interests.

Alumni Mentor Program provides valuable opportunity for students and alumni

Finlandia TRIO students have the opportunity to learn from those who have graduated before them thanks to the new Alumni Mentor Program.

The Alumni Mentor Program is available for all TRIO students, regardless of year. Alumni and students are paired by TRIO advisors with the help of Olivia Myers, Coordinator of External Relations, based off shared interests.
