Winter 2017 study abroad scholarship available through CCSA

The Cooperative Center for Study Abroad Storyteller Scholarship encourages student participation in CCSA programs by offering a means for students to tell their own CCSA stories.

The awardee is expected to provide CCSA quality writing and/or imagery. The deliverable product must be appropriate for the CCSA web site, although the student may propose alternative formats such as a blog or a YouTube project.

Hancock native to lead graphic design program at FinnU

Finlandia University has hired Tom Adolphs as Assistant Professor of Graphic Design. Adolphs is a Hancock native that is just about finished with his Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Technical Communication from Michigan Technological University.

“Being able to work here is a dream come true,” said Adolphs. “I enjoy being in this town, and adding to it.”

Psychology department welcomes Dr. Jillian O’Rourke Stuart

Finlandia University and its Suomi College of Arts & Sciences has hired Dr. Jillian O’Rourke Stuart as Assistant Professor of Psychology. Stuart is coming to Hancock after completing her doctorate studies at the University of Iowa.

“I’m excited to get to the Upper Peninsula and Finlandia,” Dr. Stuart said. “I went to a small liberal arts school for my undergrad degree, and I always wanted to go back to that kind of environment.”

Dr. Emily Geiger joins science department at Finlandia

Finlandia University has hired Dr. Emily Geiger as Assistant Professor of Biochemistry.

“I’m excited to be part of the science department at Finlandia,” Dr. Geiger said. “I appreciate the small class sizes, which contribute to a great learning environment.”

Dr. Geiger began teaching as an adjunct at FinnU in the spring semester. She will lead courses in general chemistry and organic chemistry, as well as the associated labs this fall. The offering of organic chemistry courses is new at the university.

Samantha Saint-Onge has been named Medical Assistant/Medical Billing and Coding Program Director in the College of Health Sciences at Finlandia University.

“This is a great opportunity for Sam to advance her leadership skills and continue the good work of Pam Borsum, our previous MA/MBC Director,” said Cam Williams, Dean of the College of Health Sciences. “We are confident she can lead the program, and look forward to her continued professional development.”

Finlandia University’s RN-BSN Program is now approved by the Higher Learning Commission to be available as 100 percent RN-BSN online.
