Share your story or words of solidarity for survivors of sexual assault

The Finlandia Young Women’s Caucus for Art will be giving away blank t-shirts for the upcoming Clothesline Project during the Denim & R.A.I.N.N. day event on Thursday, September 21 between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m in Finlandia Hall.

For the Finlandia It’s On Us event series, the Young Women’s Caucus for Art drew inspiration from the story behind The Clothesline Project. The movement “originated in Hyannis, Massachusetts in 1990 when members of Cape Cod’s Women’s Defense Agenda learned that during the same time 58,000 soldiers were killed in the Vietnam War, 51,000 U.S. women were killed by the men who claimed to love them. The Clothesline is made up of t-shirts created by survivors of violence, or created in honor of someone who has experienced violence. It is a powerful witness of the violence many live with.”

Write your words of support or share your story on a t-shirt. Collectively, the stories will be displayed during the month of October. Please join the opening reception on Thursday, October 5th. A pizza lunch will be served at the first Thursday Art and Design announcement gathering in Jutila 323 at 12:00 p.m. At 12:30 p.m. guests are invited to head to the Reflections Gallery to see The Clothesline Project.
