MLK Service Day Featured Film

January 16, 2017 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm EST

MLK Service Day Featured Film – SELMA
  • Room: Wargelin 303
  • Time: 7 p.m.

The unforgettable true story chronicles the tumultuous three-month period in 1965, when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. led a dangerous campaign to secure equal voting rights in the face of violent opposition. The epic march from Selma to Montgomery culminated in President Johnson signing the Voting Rights Act of 1965, one of the most significant victories for the civil rights movement. Director Ava DuVernay’s “Selma” tells the story of how the revered leader and visionary Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr and his brothers and sisters in the movement prompted change that forever altered history. – W J Mcdermott

Even if you think you know what’s coming, Selma hums with suspense and surprise. It would be hard to imagine a timelier, more necessary popular entertainment. – A. O. Scott, New York Times

“Selma” carries viewers along on a tide of breathtaking events so assuredly that they never drown in the details or the despair, but instead are left buoyed. – Ann Hornaday, Washington Post

Complimentary popcorn will be served. Additional snacks will be available for purchase. All proceeds will go to Finlandia’s Equity and Diversity Committee to fund future campus events.
