A Spoken Word Service of Grief & Prayer

August 17 1:00 pm - 1:15 pm EDT

Sarah Semmler Smith

Many things have changed since we were last together for an academic semester. The challenges of the pandemic are both personal and political, medical and economic, and are taking their toll on our bodies, minds and spirits alike. In the midst of so much loss and uncertainty: we are grieving.

Specifically, at Finlandia, we grieve the loss of not only resources and plans for development put on hold, but the loss of students who won’t return or show up, of staff and faculty colleagues who are no longer here. And while we cannot simply wish away the challenges of the year, or make the losses stop – we can name them, and seek steps towards healing together in community.

This 10 minute service for faculty and staff is interfaith in nature. We will be outdoors, and wearing masks.

This event will take place on the East Lawn between the Chapel and Hoover Center. It will also be available on Zoom.
