Thanksgiving residential hall and dining details

Those interested in staying in Finlandia Hall during the Thanksgiving break are invited to do so with no additional fees. However, they must sign up so staff knows who is in the building for safety and security reasons. Sign-up sheets can be found at the front RA office. Those interested in staying should sign up by the afternoon of Monday, November 21.

Donations Needed – ALD partnering with Toys for Tots

Finlandia University’s Alpha Lambda Delta first-year honor society is partnering with Toys for Tots this holiday season, and your help is requested.

November 28 through December 9 toy bins will be played around campus for the campus community to donate toys. Toys for Tots is a program in which it serves to collect toys for needy children that may not have Christmas presents under their trees this year. After the event social workers receive the toys and donations from the Marine Corps League. Intramural futsal coming to FinnU

Students looking to get exercise and have fun playing intramural sports are invited to participate in the inaugural season of intramural futsal beginning Tuesday, November 15 and running through the end of the semester.

Futsal is basically indoor soccer with a smaller, weighted ball and is comprised of six people on a team.  For more information regarding the details, contact men’s and women’s soccer coach Brent Chase.

Finlandia Fridays hits the ice with Joe Burcar

This week on Finlandia Fridays we feature Finlandia’s men’s ice hockey coach Joe Burcar as he previews the future of the program and the ongoing season. The Houghton County Arena is a very familiar place for Burcar, winning the Harris Cup in 2007 and finishing his first stint with the team at a 104-96-11 record. Burcar remains the all-time winningest coach in program history, and plans to continue his legacy.

New business course offers perspective on cultural communication

This fall the course BUS310 Cross Cultural Business Communication is being offered for the first time in the International School of Business. The objective of the course is for students to be able to communicate effectively across cultures. During the course, the students learn about the different ways in which communication can be affected by cultural differences. Finlandia Hall Dining Area expands hours for rest of semester

In addition to offering space to hang out, dining area to host Study Tables

Finlandia Academic Services, TRIO Student Support Services, Athletics and Dining Services are collaborating to provide an evening experience in the Finlandia Hall Dining Area. The dining area will be open Sunday through Thursday nights from 8 to 11 p.m. from Monday, November 7 until the end of the semester. Students can purchase short order freshly prepared food using cash, meal passes or exchanges.

Servant Leadership House hosting supply drive for shelter home

Join the Servant Leadership House in their support of the Barbara Kettle Gundlach Shelter Home for women and children victimized by domestic violence. From Monday, November 28 through Friday, December 2 the Servant Leadership House girls are gathering everyday supplies necessary for a smooth running operation.

There will be drop off bins at the Maki Library, the RA Station in Finlandia Hall and the second floor of the Jutila Center. The supplies needed are extensive:

Voices wanted! Singers needed for Thanksgiving worship

The campus community is invited to sing during the Ecumenical Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, November 20 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Hancock.

Those interested are invited to rehearse at any of the following rehearsal times, though attending all of them is not required, but encouraged. The rehearsals will take place at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church on Quincy Street in Hancock.
