Nordic Film Series to celebrate Estonia’s centennial

Fresh off a year of celebrating Finland’s centennial of independence, the Finnish American Heritage Center isn’t quite done celebrating 100-year anniversaries.

This month’s Nordic Film Series feature of “The Fencer,” which is set in Estonia, will include a pair of special guests to help the FAHC honor Estonia’s 100th anniversary of independence. The movie will be shown twice on Thursday, January 11, at both 2 and 6 p.m.

Apply now for competitive $20,000 Brule Art Scholarship

The 2017 Brule Art Scholarship winners were Jessica Gill of Escanaba (left) and Chloe Haataja of Houghton. In addition to other funding and scholarships – including the U.P. Commitment Grant – each student was awarded $20,000 courtesy of David and Elsa Brule.

Onni Nordman’s “Sauna: Divine Comedy” coming to Finlandia University Gallery

Finlandia University Gallery will present a series of artwork by Finnish-Canadian artist Onni Nordman. His exhibit titled Sauna: Divine Comedy will be on display at the Finlandia University Gallery, located in the Finnish American Heritage Center, Hancock, from January 18 to February 17.

New head football coach Rob Boss came to chat about the future of Finlandia University football this week on Finlandia Fridays. Boss stated “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time here,” when asked about his Finlandia experience thus far. Boss joined Finlandia’s staff last fall as an assistant, and was promoted to head coach on November 6.

Social dance class open to Finlandia students and community
