Human trafficking presentation coming to FinnU on January 24

The recently re-established Upper Peninsula Human Trafficking Task Force (UPHTTF) has teamed together with the Department of Justice, U.S. Homeland Security Investigations, several Upper Peninsula Law Enforcement Agencies, and other local experts in the field to bring Human Trafficking Community Awareness to the U.P. in a week-long event during Human Trafficking Awareness Month. Finlandia celebrates MLK Day with third annual Day of Service

Students and faculty aren’t reporting to class as they usually do on Monday morning. Instead students, staff and faculty are continuing one of Finlandia’s newest and most rewarding traditions – MLK Day of Service. Students, staff and faculty are volunteering throughout the Copper Country, with a total of 16 service sites ranging from the Barbara Kettle Gundlach Shelter in Calumet to The Bluffs Senior Community in Houghton, and just about everywhere in between.

Joe Burcar highlights bright future of Finlandia men’s hockey program

Men’s hockey coach Joe Burcar stopped by Finlandia Fridays this week to talk about home games, new recruits and upgrades to Houghton County Arena. Burcar is excited to be back on home ice, mentioning that the team has not been at home since the second weekend in November. “Any time it’s game day, especially when it’s at home, it’s a great day,” stated Burcar.

Volunteer sign ups for MLK Day of Service now closed, but volunteers still wanted

Due to incredible student response, all 17 MLK Day of Service sites in the community are full. However, it is not too late to volunteer. If you are still interested in volunteering, please report to Finlandia Hall at 9 a.m. on Monday morning and you will be assigned somewhere.

The third annual MLK Day of Service at Finlandia University will take place on MLK Day, which is Monday, January 15.
