I was hired as an Assistant Professor of Marketing and Athletics Partnership Manager at Finlandia in June of 2021. I have spent the last five years as the Director of Athletic Marketing at Michigan Tech where I also taught athletic marketing, media, and sports finance classes.
I bring over 25 years of retail management/marketing experience, as well as 8 years of experience with corporate partnerships at the collegiate level. I have completed both my Master of Sports Management and my Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Liberty University. I am currently working on my Doctorate of Business Administration.
I attended Bowling Green State University and as a freshman goaltender captured the NCAA Division I National Championship. I posted a 21-5-2 record and a 2.87 goals-against average that season, earning NCAA Frozen Four MVP honors. I also helped the Falcons to a 2-1 semifinal win over Michigan State and the memorable 5-4 win in the title game over Minnesota Duluth in four overtimes.
I was blessed to earn First Team All-America honors in my final two seasons for the Falcons and is one of only two players in school history to earn First Team All-America honors twice.
My 88 (88-35-4) career wins broke former Montreal Canadiens and NHL Hall of Fame goalie Ken Dryden's NCAA record. I am a two-time inductee into the BGSU Athletics Hall of Fame, once as a team member of the 1984 hockey team and once as an individual.
I played two seasons with Flint Spirits in the International Hockey League after being drafted by the New York Islanders with the 15th overall pick in the first round of the 1986 NHL Supplemental Draft. I finished his pro career with a 23-22-2 record. I had to retire due to two major knee injuries.
I am originally from Oak Lawn, Illinois, and now with my wife Joan reside in Lake Linden, Michigan. We have a total of six children. Three are in the US armed forces, one is in Arizona, and two teenage daughters are at home. My family and I attend Evangel Community Church. My wife is the Head Administrator at Copper Country Christian School.
I try to live by the following:
Create an environment to help students flourish with their walk with God, thrive academically, and share my life story while watching them transform into young adults.
